IFC support in dRofus

General info about IFC

Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) is an international standard for data exchange in construction projects between different computer programs. This provides new opportunities for data exchange and interaction between all types of applications involved in the construction process.

For more information about standards and standardization, as well as documentation regarding the standard, visit www.buildingsmart.com or www.iai.no

The standard does not focus specifically on the early phase work and programming, but rather towards the design and drawings, yet dRofus is still able to export key data that can be used to import into other programs and to check consistency with other data in the construction project. Data exported from dRofus can be used with any application that supports the IFC standard. The number of such applications are increasing rapidly.

Importing IFC from draft to dRofus

dRofus supports importing and exporting data to the IFC standard. The most exciting application for such checks, is in the control and updating of requirement data in dRofus against the drawings in CAD during the design phase.

This includes checking that the room is drawn, the designed area in dRofus has been updated to what is drawn, and that the equipment in the model is consistent with the equipment plan in dRofus.

dRofus can import data from IFC files and perform checks and updates.

Export of IFC data from dRofus to ArchiCAD and AutoCAD

dRofus can export IFC data which can be used to import an initial architectural model to a CAD program. In this way, all programmed rooms will have the correct room name and numbering, and the programmed area can be transferred to the CAD program. In the CAD program you can also see the Room Data Sheet (RDS) while you work.
